Dundalk FC winger Michael Duffy says he wouldn't turn down Rep. of Ireland or Northern Ireland if he receives an international call up.
The winger has grabbed a lot of attention for his performances in the League of Ireland, this season. Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill has praised the player on multiple occasions.
"If a call came from Martin O'Neill, I would be delighted - I'd jump at that. The same thing, I was obviously in the Northern Ireland squad. It's just a huge thing to play for international country. So, I wouldn't be turning down either. Obviously, if Martin came I would take that opportunity.
Duffy was previously capped at under-age level for both Republic and Northern Ireland but says the thought has only re-entered a spark in his mind after he heard the Republic of Ireland manager has been at a number of Dundalk matches.
"If the time comes, hopefully it does. That thought has only come back into my head the last month or two because I heard Martin O'Neill has been at the matches.
Duffy who netted a sensational goal against Tallinn in the Europa League last week, says he has not spoken directly with either Martin O'Neill about a call-up to either national side.
"No, I haven't spoken with him. I've just heard he's been at the games and stuff, and had some good words for me. He was obviously at the game on Thursday. So, that's another good thing for me,' said Duffy.
The former Celtic player reiterated his desire to play for either but confirmed that he would select the Republic, if he has to make that decision.
"I can't turn it down really. You couldn't say no to anyone offering you an international. I'd love to play for Republic but obviously I've lots of family from Northern Ireland, as well. It really doesn't make a difference to me. If I did have to choose; I would be choosing Republic of Ireland."
