A Dirk Kuyt hat-trick wins Feyenoord the Eredivisie

14 years after he joined Feyenoord, Dirk Kuyt finally won the Eredivisie title.

The 36-year-old is in his second spell with the club, after he left to join Liverpool in 2006. He returned in 2015 after spending three seasons in Istanbul with Fenerbache.

Kuyt is regarded as a modern-day legend with the Rotterdam club. On Sunday afternoon, he played a crucial role in the team's first league title since 1999. That was four years before he even joined the club.

Ahead of the final round of Eredivisie fixtures on Sunday afternoon, Feyenoord led Ajax at the top of the table by a solitary point. A win at home to Heracles would hand Feyenoord their first title of the 21st century.

Despite his ageing years, Kuyt's second spell at the club has been a revelation. He has scored 31 league goals in two seasons, hitting double figures both times.

On Sunday, when the pressure was on his side to win, the former Liverpool striker scored a hat-trick to write his name into Dutch football's history books.

The Feyenoord captain scored twice in the opening 12 minutes and capped off his season with a penalty in the final ten minutes to make sure of the win.

At 36, Kuyt is enjoying a career renaissance in domestic football. Next season, he returns to the Champions League.
