Daryl Horgan's potential move from Dundalk to England, could create some history in the League of Ireland.
With Horgan's potential departure from Oriel Park, and Dundalk's financial bonanza from their outstanding season in Europe, a ransom may be placed on potential Dundalk targets.
One of those targets is Bray's Dylan Connolly. The 21-year-old moved to Bray from Ipswich Town ahead of the 2016 season and impressed in a season where the Wicklow team defied expectations.
The former Shelbourne star remains under contract in Bray, meaning the team would require a transfer fee from Dundalk.
PFAI Secretary Stephen McGuinness feels Connolly's potential transfer could be the first in the league to reach six-figures. No transfer fee for a player between two League of Ireland clubs has ever reached €100,000.
Speaking to The Times, McGuinness said he expects the move to happen "within weeks". The transfer would break the record fee Drogheda United paid for Eamon Zayed in 2006, from none other than Bray Wanderers.
Such has been Dundalk's European gold-rush in recent months, Stephen Kenny's side could continue to find themselves in similar situations in the future, if they want to buy a player that remains in contract with another club.
Daryl Horgan's future looks like it could be the only stumbling block to what would be a historic transfer.
