Aaron Lennon receiving treatment for a "stress-related illness"

Everton winger Aaron Lennon has been detained by Police under the Mental Health Act, over fears of his well-being.

The 30-year-old, has played 21 times for England, including at the 2006 and 2010 World Cup. This season he has made 13 appearances for the Liverpool club, and last lined out in a scoreless draw against Middlesbrough in February.

Everton have confirmed that Lennon is currently undergoing treatment for a "stress-related illness", before adding "the club is supporting him through this and his family has appealed for privacy at this time."

In a statement released on Tuesday night, Greater Manchester Police revealed Lennon was detained last weekend, less than an hour after Everton's 3-0 loss to Chelsea.

"Police were called at around 4.35pm to reports of a concern for the welfare of a man on Eccles Old Road. Officers attended and a 30-year-old man was detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act and was taken to hospital for assessment."

Lennon has become a forgotten man of Everton's team this season. Before last month's game against Manchester United, manager Ronald Koeman confirmed the winger was not part of his immediate plans.

"He is not in a physical way to be part of the team", Koeman revealed.
