Aidan O'Shea thanks Mayo fans for support on social media and says team still strive for "ultimate goal"

By now Mayo players and fans alike will want to put their defeat in the All-Ireland final replay behind them.

Dublin secured back-to-back titles for the first time since the 1970s and Mayo continue their search for a first All-Ireland since 1951. The story has been told numerous times and in numerous ways over the past 10 days.

While most players have done their utmost to retreat for the glaring eye of the media, with one notable exception being Mayo goalkeeper Rob Hennelly.

Aidan O'Shea became the latest player to "break their silence" as it were and post on social media about the defeat and took the opportunity to thank fans for their support over the course of the Championship campaign.

He wrote: "Back to the reality of Life today. Tough Days & more to come but proud to be from Mayo & we as a group will Continue to 'Chop Wood & Carry water' in search of our ultimate goal. Thanks for all the messages of support. #mayogaa."

Stephen Rochford's side will now reflect on their year and prepare for next season's league campaign.
