Alex Ferguson has underlined his admiration for old rival Arsene Wenger in the 2016 Champions League final programme.

The retired Manchester United managerial legend regularly clashed with his Arsenal counterpart in the Premier League, often battling for titles, but their relationship has softened over the years and Ferguson took time to praise Wenger, who has faced mounting criticism in recent years as Arsenal endure a league title drought stretching back to 2004.

"He has been fantastic. Now he gets a lot of criticism, but I admire that you're not going to bend to the will of the critics. He stays with what he believes in. And I think people who do that are outstanding coaches," said Ferguson.

"When you talk about consistency, Arsene's never changed the way that his side has played."
