All-Ireland winner Daniel Goulding retires from Cork duty

Former Cork All-Ireland-winning footballer Daniel Goulding has announced his retirement from inter-county duty.

The 30-year-old made his debut for the Rebels in 2006.

He was the Man of the Match in the All Ireland final in 2010 as Cork beat Down to reclaim Sam Maguire for the first time in 20 years. He weighed in with 0-9 of Cork's 0-16 tally in their one-point winning margin.

He also won National League medals and multiple Munster titles.

Individually, he was an All-Star winner in 2009.

At club level, Ovens, Co Cork born footballer, represented Eire Og.

He confirmed his retirement to The42's Fintan O'Toole, saying: "“It is the right decision for me at this point in time. The demands of the inter-county game are massive and I’m not getting as much enjoyment out of it now as I did before.

"Over the last few years, the role of a forward has changed a lot. I was best suited to a corner-forward position and that role got more difficult to play in over the years. That was frustrating at times.

"If you’re not enjoying it and if you’re not 100% up for the challenge of putting it in for the full season, you’re better off not being there."
