Anderson Silva says Ronda Rousey chose the "wrong strategy" in her return fight

Former UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey chose the "wrong strategy" when selecting an opponent for her comeback fight, says MMA legend Anderson Silva.

The 29-year-old was handed the first defeat of her career in November 2015 when she was beaten by Holly Holm and decided to take a year away from the sport.

In her absence, the belt changed hands on multiple occasions, first to Miesha Tate and then to Amanda Nunes at UFC 200.

Rousey returned to the Octagon last December to face Nunes and attempt to reclaim her title at UFC 207. Nunes dominated the fight and defeated Rousey in less than a minute.

"If you continue fighting, I hope you come back well," he said in an interview with Brazilian TV station, Combate News. "My personal and technical opinion as a fighter is that you should choose better your opponents in your comeback. Don't fight someone who’s so active as the champion. That was a wrong strategy. I hope you come back because you are a great athlete."

He added: "She was away from fighting for a long time, and lack of rhythm can become an issue. I don’t take anything away from the champion, she’s in a good run and I hope she continues and wins against whoever they put in front of her and stays as champion for the rest of her career, but those are things that happen. You get in there and you’re taking the risk of losing or winning. It’s natural."
