Andrei Kanchelskis addresses the League of Ireland management rumours from 2015

For four years, Andrei Kanchelskis gave opposition left full backs the run-around for Manchester United.

Why he left for Everton was the subject of much speculation at the time in 1995 and that speculation and other stories from his career with Manchester City, Rangers and Fiorentina at club level and Soviet Union, CIS and Russia at international grades are all things he lifts the lid in his new autobiography Russian Winters

Visiting Ireland on Monday, he joined me on Team 33 this week to discuss all those experiences but we also talked about the rumours from 2015 that linked him with an interest in managing Derry City in the League of Ireland.

You can listen to the interview with Andrei Kanchelskis on the podcast player or stream/download on iTunes:

Recent interviews on Team 33 include ex-England international Carlton Palmer, Chelsea legends Bobby Tambling and Paddy Mulligan, Dutch legend Johan Neeskens, ex-England striker Darius Vassell, Liverpool legend David Fairclough, former Ireland midfielder Mark Kinsella and former Everton forward Tomasz Radzinski. Plus our in-depth chats with Tony CotonPackie BonnerNobby SolanoRon Atkinson and Alan Curbishley are still available on iTunes. You can find them all in one place by subscribing to Team 33 on iTunes.

At the time, the club confirmed that they had received interest from the former Premier League cult hero, although they initially thought it was some sort of prank.

"Somebody told me [about potential interest]. I told them if there was interest for me, I'm ready for discussions, no problem," Kanchelskis responded.

"I [was] ready for discussions to work from here because I know it's not a high level anyway, just a start and after I'd see what happens."

And in the next two weeks, our next guests on Team 33 will be ex-Wimbledon player and former Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez and former Dublin footballer Jason Sherlock who will discuss his soccer exploits.
