Andrew Trimble casts an eye towards history as Ireland's All-Blacks clash approaches

Ireland wing Andrew Trimble is resisting the temptation to look too far ahead as the upcoming clash with the All-Blacks inches closer.

With much to play for at provincial and European level with Ulster, the 31-year-old is keeping firmly focused on the here and now as he told Newstalk's Dave McIntyre at the EPCR European Rugby Champions Cup and European Rugby Challenge Cup launch at Dublin's Convention Centre.

Ireland are searching to make history by beating New Zealand for the first time when they face the reigning Rugby World Cup champions at Soldier's Field on November 5th, followed by a second encounter at Aviva Stadium on November 19th.

"I think [the New Zealand match] in the back of everybody's mind. But it's difficult to look past the here and now. It's a bit of a cliché, just looking at this next game and not looking any further forward than that," he said.

"Especially from an Ulster point of view, every week you're getting ready for big tough tests. We had Glasgow away, Ospreys at home. The intensity of that game was through the roof. It's Connacht away this weekend, then two big European games - one in the south of France. So we've got a lot to worry about before the All-Blacks."

However, once other business is taken care of first, Trimble knows what is at stake for Ireland next month.

"We had a national camp there Sunday and Monday and I think those are handy to remind you of the size of the task ahead of us and the excitement there is about going to Soldier's Field and potentially making a bit of history so it's in the back of everybody's mind but I think the only way you get there is if you perform in a provincial jersey. Everybody's trying to do that first," he said.
