Andy Farrell to join Munster on a temporary basis until the end of the season

Andy Farrell is to join Munster until the end of the season in a consultant role.

Farrell, who only last week was named as Ireland's new defensive coach, is to spend at least one day a week with Anthony Foley's side according to the Irish Independent.

The former rugby league star was previously part of England's backroom team, leaving his position after last year's Rugby World Cup. He was the defensive coach with the victorious British and Irish Lions team in 2013.

Farrell cannot coach with the Irish team until after the Six Nations under the terms of his gardening leave from the RFU but is free to coach club sides.

Speaking of the announcement, Munster Rugby CEO Garrett Fitzgerald said, "We have been looking for additional support for our coaching staff and with the timely availability of an experienced coach such as Andy Farrell we felt his inclusion would be hugely beneficial in assisting our coaching team.”

The news of Farrell's arrival will add more pressure on under-fire Head Coach Anthony Foley. Munster have lost six of their last seven games in all competitions.
