Andy Lee puts himself forward as potential opponent for Gennady Golovkin

Andy Lee has set his sights on a fight against Gennady Golovkin as he makes his return to boxing.

The Irish middleweight had taken some time away from the ring after his WBO title defence loss to Billy Joe Saunders in December.

Lee is targeting WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO champion Golovkin, who beat Kell Brook on Saturday night, as well as Danny Jacobs, Canelo Alvarez and Miguel Cotto as potential opponents.

Lee was also approached early this year about a possible fight with Danny Jacobs and had been due to fight Golovkin at Madison Square Gardens on April 26, 2014.

However the death of Golovkin's father meant that the Kazakh took some time away from the sport at that time - a decision which Lee sympathised with.

As he returns to action, Lee said, "I have had a bit of a lay off since my last fight, but I want to get back to boxing, what better way to get back than in a championship fight. I have no qualms about challenging Danny or Gennady or any other top fighter, I am in the business of fighting that is what I do for a living. As a professional athlete I want to test myself and fight and beat the best, that has been my motivation during my career."
