Andy Lee says there's a "good chance" he will fight Jorge Sebastian Heiland next Spring

Irish boxer Andy Lee says there's a "good chance" his next fight could be against Jorge Sebastian Heiland.

The former WBO Middleweight champion last fought December 2015 when he lost to Billy Joe Saunders.

But he now expects to be back in the ring in the Spring as he confirmed to Off The Ball as he joined the show to discuss the state of boxing with ESPN's boxing correspondent Dan Rafael.

"I am back in training. I decided to take a break after my last fight, which I lost, just to get away from it for a while," he said, adding that recent years had been intense.

He expects to fight again in Spring, potentially around late February or more likely in March, now that a fight in December has now been pushed back.

"Originally it was supposed to be a prelim bout against an opponent of our choosing which would be like a comeback; somebody with a good record, rated in the Top 20 but the way things have developed, there's a good chance I could fight Jorge Sebastian Heiland who was the WBC No 1 contender and beat Matthew Macklin here in the 3 Arena a couple of years ago now."

It is a fight and opponent that Lee says he would welcome.

"That's a fight I'd like and a fight that would make sense for me. It would lead to a possible title fight with [Gennady] Golovkin so that's what I'm hoping is in the works," he said.

Kazakh boxer Golovkin is the WBA, WBC, IBF, and IBO middleweight champion.

Argentine Heiland has won his last six fights, including against Macklin in November 2014 in Dublin to retain the WBC International middleweight title and holds a record of 28 wins, two draws and 4 losses from 34 fights.
