Andy Murray claims Wimbledon glory for the second time

Andy Murray was victorious over Milos Raonic in the 2016 Wimbledon final, as the Scot claimed his second title at SW 19 on Sunday.

The British number one and world number two defeated his Canadian opponent Milos Raonic in straight sets on Centre Court 6-4, 7-6, 7-6.

Three years ago, Murray became the first British man to win Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936, and this year's win was his third grand slam triumph after victory in the US Open in 2012.

As he accepted the trophy, Murray said that he reserves a special place in his heart for the London competition: "It's the most important tournament for me every year. I've had some great moments here and also some tough losses and [...] I'm so happy to have my hands on the trophy again."

Having fought so hard to make it to the top of the pile in 2013, Murray noted that this year's win might be easier to savour.

"Yeah I'm going to make sure I do [enjoy it more]. Last time I was so relieved, I was very nervous today as well, but there was just so much stress and pressure that I didn't get the chance to enjoy it as much. But I'll make sure I enjoy this one tonight, for sure."

Paying tribute to this opponent, he said "He's had some unbelievable wins, his match against Roger in the semis was a great, great match. He is one of the harder workers out there [...] each time we play against each other he's made big improvements."

Speaking afterwards Raonic said "It's been a phenomenal two weeks at this tournament so I'll keep plugging away, every single day, to give myself these chances."
