Andy Murray will miss the Rogers Cup ahead of Olympic title defence

Andy Murray will play no part in the Rogers Cup next week as he prepares to defend his Olympic title next month in Rio.

The world number two won his third Rogers Cup last year and said in a statement today that he needs to rest his body before the Olympics tennis event which gets underway on August 6.

"My body needs some recovery time after reaching the latter stages of tournaments over the past few months," Murray, said in a statement released by Tennis Canada.

"I’m sorry to my fans in Toronto but I look forward to being back in Canada next year."

The Scot most recently beat Milos Raonic to win his second ever Wimbledon crown this month and skips the Canadian event for the first time in 2006. The Rogers Cup runs from 23 to 31 July.
