Angry Yaya Toure feels Africa let him down by not naming him Africa's best of 2015

Yaya Toure has not taken his runner-up place in the African Footballer of the Year awards very well.

The Manchester City midfielder finished second to Borussia Dortmund's Pierre Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon for 2015, losing out by just seven points, which meant he missed out on making it a five-in-a-row of individual gongs at continental level.

Aubameyang has been prolific over the last 18 months, scoring over 50 goals at club level, but Toure was clearly disappointed that his role in captaining Ivory Coast to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations title did not automatically see him recognised as the continent's best.

"I’m very, very disappointed. It’s sad to see Africa react this way, that they don’t think African achievements are important," he is reported to have said.

"I think this is what brings shame to Africa, because to act in that way is indecent. But what can we do about it? Us Africans, we don’t show that Africa is important in our eyes. We favour more what’s abroad than our own continent. That is pathetic.

"As I’ve been told many times, you can’t take care of Africa too much because Africa will be the first to let you down."
