Former Meath footballer Anthony Moyles claims Mayo need to become more efficient in front of goal if they are to have any chance of progressing in this year's All-Ireland Championship.

Mayo needed extra time to overcome a game Derry side after the match finished 1-12 each at Elverys MAcHale Park at the weekend.

They eventually ran out winners by 2-12 to 1-13 after their substitutions tilted the game in their favour.

The home side fired 17 shots wide in normal time and Moyles believes they need to be smarter with their shooters when they get into scoring range.

He joined Monday's Off the Ball to discuss the match and speaking to Joe Molloy, he said: "The wrong fellas are taking the (shots at goal) - you're talking about the efficiency of Kerry, your right fellas are on the ball - your shooters.

"There was corner-backs coming up taking potshots, like Tom Parsons. Tom is not known for his point-taking ability so Tom should be saying to himself 'you know, I drive through, I take the hit - who is coming behind me?' You pop it off.

"And again, it's funny, you'd have to look at the statistics but Cillian O'Connor, for me, hardly got on the ball on that loop - to come out and take shots.

"Now, he might have been well marshalled by Rogers but it was this situation where you're saying 'get these fellas on the ball. Get Andy Moran on the ball. Get some of these guys on the ball and win a free, stick it down and put it over the bar' because it just became very, very hectic and then, it was kind of like a free-for-all," he added.

James Horan was also on the line and he discussed the impact of Conor Loftus on the side, as well as the weekend's other GAA talking points. The full discussion can be heard here:
