Anthony Pettis and Max Holloway confirmed for UFC 206

Anthony Pettis will meet Max Holloway at UFC 206 in a featherweight bout, the UFC confirmed on Wednesday night.

The 29-year-old, who is coming off the back of a submission victory against Charles Oliveira at UFC on FOX 21 in August, will meet the in-form Holloway in Toronto on December 10.

Pettis defeated the Brazilian to arrest a run of three consecutive defeats, which began at UFC 185 when he lost the lightweight title to Rafael Dos Anjos.

'Showtime' went on to lose his next two fights, both at 155lbs, and decided to drop down to featherweight.

Holloway, meanwhile, has enjoyed a run of nine straight victories in the featherweight division since his unanimous decision loss to Conor McGregor back in 2013.

The latest of those victories came against Ricardo Lamas at UFC 199, where he won by unanimous decision. Another victory for the number three ranked featherweight would surely put him in contention for a title shot against either McGregor or interim champion Jose Aldo.

McGregor has confirmed he will give up a belt after UFC 205 should he beat current lightweight Eddie Alvarez at Madison Square Garden. This would mean Holloway's featherweight title shot would likely come against Aldo.

The card will be headlined by Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson's light-heavyweight title fight.
