Arsenal add second signing of the summer with the arrival of Japanese striker

Arsene Wenger is back at work and has signed Takuma Asano from Sanfrecce Hiroshima as his second signing this summer.

The 21-year-old will arrive in London to compete with Olivier Giroud as the only out-and-out striker in the squad.

Having failed to land Jamie Vardy and with the possibility of Theo Walcott leaving Arsenal, Wenger was keen to reinforce his attack ahead of the new season but says that Asano is a player for the future, which indicates he will need time to break into Wenger's starting team.

Wenger says, "Takuma is a talented young striker and very much one for the future."

The London side have long had a dearth of talent on the wings with the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott, Joel Campbell and Danny Welbeck but the newest signing fills an obvious need in Arsenal's squad ahead of the new season.

The French manager signed Granit Xhaka earlier this summer as he looks to keep pace with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and Antonio Conte at Chelsea in what looks like it could be the most open Premier League in a number of years.
