Arturo Vidal has slammed Hungarian referee Viktor Kassai after Bayern Munich's 4-2 (6-3 on aggregate) defeat to Real Madrid in the quarter-final of the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The German giants crashed out in controversial circumstances and the Chilean claimed his side had been victim of a "robbery".

Munich led 2-1 at the end of the 90 minutes to force the game to extra-time, but Vidal was dismissed on 84 minutes after picking up a second yellow card.

The 29-year-old picked was first booked after only six minutes in the opening half and was dismissed for his challenge on Asensio. Replays showed that Vidal had won the ball, but Kassai did not hesitate reaching to his pocket.

"When Madrid got scared, the referee began his show," Vidal said after the game.

"This robbery can’t happen in the Champions League. We felt it a lot and you start to wonder a bit.

"We wanted to go through and there’s a lot of anger in that a match of such intensity is decided by the referee. He made a lot of mistakes and knocked us out of the Champions League.

He added: "When [referees] embarrass you like that, it’s really hard to take. It makes you very angry."

To add to this, Cristiano Ronaldo was on hand to score a hat-trick to bring his Champions League goals tally to 100 - the first player to ever do so.

There was also controversy surrounding his goals, with his two in extra-time appearing offside. The goals constituted his seventh Champions League hat-trick and his 41st since joining Real Madrid.
