Bayern Munich prepared to fight for Pep Guardiola amid rumours of a move to Manchester City

Bayern Munich are not willing to give up their manager without a fight.

As speculation continues to mount regarding an alleged move to Manchester City, Bayern Munich Chief Executive Karl Heinz Rummenigge has come out to say that the success of the German club is very much dependent on the retention of Pep Guardiola.

'Pepe is very much a part of our team and our success is called Pep Guardiola. With Pep Guardiola, we can defend our title and progress in the Champions League. We are one of the best clubs in Europe. We all need help from the Bundesliga (to sell their TV rights better) as that is the only way teams in Germany will be able to keep pace with teams around Europe.'

Bayern Munich currently boast a turnover sum of £368million and are recording a profit of £78m. It is evident that the club executives in Bayern Munich attribute their ongoing wealth to Guardiola, but securing his long-term loyalty looks to be in uncertain territory.

The Spaniard's contract in Munich is due to expire in June and has yet to begin talks with the club to pursue another term. Concers over his future in Germany increased on Friday when Guardiola failed to attend his usual pre-game press conference, which, the club explained, was due to a 'personal' issue. They also insisted that he will be present for their Bundesliga clash against Hertha Berlin today.

Reports coming from Spain indicate that Guardiola has already agreed to take over at City at the beginning of July and the English side are supposedly willing to offer him a deal that exceeds the £13.2million-a-year earned by Jose Mourinho at Chelsea. The eventual figure will cover bonuses and sponsorship deals.
