Brazil beat the United States for the first time at the weekend in a Test Match

Japan's win against South Africa at the Rugby World Cup last year was seen as one of the biggest shocks in the history of the sport.

The game in Brighton may now be trumpeted by what happened in Sao Paulo at the weekend as Brazil (ranked 42 in the World) defeated the United States in the Americas Rugby Championship.

The tournament is run in a similar timeframe to the Six Nations and includes the best national teams in North and South America. Argentina send a second choice team, as their stars play in the Rugby Championships.

Despite America using a relatively weakened team against Brazil, the 24-23 loss is still seen as a massive surprise. It was the first time the teams met in a competitive international.

Brazil were seen as the weakest team in the Championships and had already lost games to Chile, Uruguay and Canada before the American win. Moises Duque scored the decisive penalty with the last kick of the game.

The 2,000 fans in attendance went wild at the final whistle as Brazil recorded the win. A win against the Americans may be the start of a historic four years for the team that could culminate with a World Cup berth in Japan in 2019.
