Brazilian government doesn't have enough money to promote the Olympics

The Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro appear to have hit yet another speed bump, as reports claim that the government are unable to promote this year's Olympics.

Brazilian newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo claims that discussions over the best use for the government's scarce resources will take place in the coming days, but their financial shortfall has lead to a lack of publicity for the Games in general.

In particular, the federal government has been unable to promote the Olympics outside of Brazil, and will decide whether or not to use what money they do have to issue some last minute advertisements to attract visitors, or to wait until afterwards and produce ads that show the country in a good light while the Games are on.

Domestically, the country is going through a huge political crisis, while recent reports also suggested that it was possible some of the venues in Rio might not be completed on time. Furthermore a number of athletes have pulled out of the Games, citing fears over the Zika virus, including some of the biggest names in golf such as Rory McIlroy and Jason Day.
