Brazilian judge orders the seizure of John Delaney's passport

A Brazilian judge has authorised the seizure of six passports from Irish citizens accused of participating in the illegal sale of tickets for the Rio Olympic Games.

Football Association of Ireland chief executive John Delaney was among those listed on a warrant issued by the courts service in Rio de Janeiro.

Acting president of the Olympic Council of Ireland William O’Brien and OCI officials Linda O’Reilly, Dermot Henihan, Kevin Kilty and Stephen Martin were also listed.

Judge Letícia D’Aiuto de Moraes Ferreira Michelli, who issued the order, stated that she took into consideration "the nationality of the accused and the possibility that, after the closing of the Games, they would leave the country," nothing that such an occurrence "would seriously harm the investigations underway".

It also said all six are prohibited from leaving the country, in a decision that complied with orders from the Public Ministry.

The names of the members of the Executive staff of the Olympic Committee were mentioned by Pat Hickey in his evidence given to the police.

The judge also issued the search and seizure warrant for the tickets, phones, laptops, USB drives and computers in the rooms of the OCI at the Windsor Hotel and the Olympic Village.

The material will now be used as research in the investigation into illegal ticket touting.
