Brendan Maher believes Tipp proved doubters wrong on physical question marks

Tipperary captain Brendan Maher feels his side have answered any question marks that have been thrown their way about their ability to come out on top in the physical stakes.

The county defeated rivals Kilkenny at Croke Park to claim their first All-Ireland hurling title since 2010 and speaking to Newstalk Sport's Oisin Langan after lifting the Liam McCarthy Cup, Maher says some doubts have been proven wrong.

"I suppose we're always talked about how good hurlers we are but we're not able to win tight games, we're not able to win a physical battle. But we've shown this year that we've probably been the most physical team and that wasn't just an overnight change. That's something we've been working on," he said.

Maher also feels that the current Tipp crop has matured after a period of transition.

"It was kind of a case of we've learned from our past experiences and we're trying to make the most of the present," he said.
