Brendan Rodgers believes Celtic would be among leading clubs if they were in the Premier League

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers says the Scottish champions could be a top six Premier League side in England.

But he admits that there is little chance of them ever playing south of the border.

He watched his team manage a 3-3 draw with Manchester City in Glasgow in the Champions League on Wednesday night as they bounced back from a heavy loss to Barcelona in their group opener.

"If Celtic were in England, they would be in the top four [or] top six clubs there," said Rodgers.

But Rodgers says a move is unlikely to ever happen.

"It is going to be difficult for Celtic to be in the English pyramid system because of the sheer scale of the club. Most of our games are packed out now," he said.

The English Football League recently made the prospect of Celtic or their rivals Rangers playing in England more distant.

In a statement, they said that "the inclusion of Premier League B Teams, clubs from non-English leagues or those outside the English football pyramid will not form part of any ongoing discussions for the ‘Whole Game Solution'".
