Brendan Rodgers looking to maintain derby record as Rangers match approaches

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is looking to maintain his 100% derby record as the Old Firm game against Rangers approaches.

Celtic are currently top of the SPL, 16 points ahead of their city rivals with a game in hand.

The champions beat Rangers 5-1 at Celtic Park in September and also came out on top 1-0, when the sides met at Hampden Park in the League Cup semi-final.

Speaking ahead of the match to the club's official website, Rodgers said: “There’s always pressure. If you’re successful and you want to be successful, there’s always pressure, and in terms of where we’re at and where Rangers are at in relation to the number of points behind, and with Aberdeen and Hearts closing in behind them, then, of course, they will want to win the game as much as we will.

“They’re protecting an unbeaten run at home and their supporters will expect them to win the game, so that all points to pressure in their situation.

“For us, we’ve had a really tough month of nine games, seven of which we’ve won and we drew in the Champions League, so we want to win the game, of course, but however the game goes for us, we’ve had a brilliant opening period to the season and we’ll go away, re-energise, re-focus and be better in the second part of the season,” he added.

The teams kick-off at Ibrox on Saturday at 12.15.
