Brexit costing Zlatan Ibrahimović over £20k per week

Zlatan Ibrahimović's new pay packet with Manchester United has dropped by 10% following the Brexit vote, the Financial Times reports.

The paper has stated that the fact his agreed deal was not officially executed until last week makes his wages in sterling worth over £20,000 per week less against the dollar.

The Swedish athlete is reported to be earning £220,000 weekly from his transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to Manchester United.

During his negotiations, currency fluctuations were not discussed.

Talking to the Financial Times, Sheridans sports lawyer Daniel Geey said:

"If there is a euro amount to a player’s buyout clause, that amount has become more expensive and has potentially scuppered deals."

A senior executive at a major Premier League club revealed:

"Right now, currency is the big issue.

"The bigger story is about player acquisition, transfers and player development. Everything will depend on the political settlement."

In an interview with France Football, Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger reiterated his concerns regarding the impact of Brexit on the Premier League.

He said:

"We thought that one day the best players from Real and Barca would say: 'I also want to go to England because everyone is over there.'

"All of that is now uncertain and Brexit is a spanner in the works. It will have consequences, not in the very short term, but in the long term, yes."
