British Cycling officials to face questions from MPs over TUEs

British Cycling chiefs are set to face questions from Members of Parliament regarding the team's use and policing of Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs).

Damian Collins, chairman of the culture, media and sport select committee has said that the hearing would focus on the grounds in which TUEs are permitted, and about a medical package that was delivered to Team Sky by a British Cycling employee in June 2011.

Speaking to The Times, Collins stated that the committee should have the power to quiz the body, but there is no suggestion of wrongdoing by either British Cycling or Team Sky.

"As part of the inquiry into doping, the select committee wants to look at the ethics of the use of TUEs and the way this is policed by British Cycling," Collins told The Times.

"We can ask British Cycling about any incidents in the past where we believe it is important how the governing body oversees their sport."

The date of the hearing has yet to be confirmed, although late November to mid-December has been touted, and the attendance of British Cycling Chairman Bob Howden has been requested.

This comes in the aftermath of the Fancy Bear hacks which leaked the TUE history of British cyclists such as Sir Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome and Laura Trott.

Wiggins, who stated his TUE history was due to a pollen allergy that aggregates his asthma, took the anti-inflamatory drug triamcinolone before his 2012 Tour de France victory, as well as during his 2011 Tour de France and the 2013 Giro d'Italia performances.

Lance Armstrong recently claimed that he "wasn't surprised" about Wiggins' TUE history in an interview with Off The Ball. If you missed it, or want to listen again, here's the interview in full.
