Brock Lesnar poised for UFC return in July

Former UFC and WWE heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar will return to mixed martial arts this July as he takes on Mark Hunt at UFC 200.

Lesnar returns to the promotion for the first time in six years after back-to-back defeats against Cain Velasquez and Alistair Overeem between 2010 and 2011 and also struggled greatly with diverticulitis.

"The true competitor in me is still alive and well, and I had to do this," Lesnar told UFC.com.

A former NCAA Division I national wrestling champion, Lesnar turned to mixed martial arts in 2007, and by 2008 he was in the UFC and facing former world champion Frank Mir, a fight which he would go on to lose.

He emerged victorious from his next four bouts, taking the UFC heavyweight championship when he knocked out Randy Couture in 2008.

"At the top of my career, I wasn't at the top of my game, so I felt like I was cheated out of my career in the UFC. In my mind, I never lost to an opponent; I lost to diverticulitis. That was what beat me."

The promotions biggest event takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas headlined by the UFC light heavyweight title unification fight rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones.

Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar also face off for the interim featherweight title and Miesha Tate puts her UFC women's bantamweight crown on the line against Amanda Nunes.
