CAS to strip Russian boxer and Romanian weightlifter of Olympic medals

The Court of Arbitration for Sport will strip two medallists from this year's Olympic Games in Rio as a result of failed drugs tests.

Russian boxer Misha Aloian and Romanian weightlifter Gabriel Sincraian will lose their medals, while the results recorded by both athletes will be disqualified.

Aloian won a flyweight silver medal in a bout on the final day of the games in Brazil, but will be stripped for testing positive for the banned substance tuaminoheptane.

Sincraian, meanwhile, won bronze in the men's 85-kilogram weightlifting, and will lose his medal for testing positive for exogenous testosterone.

IOC President Thomas Bach said on Thursday that Russian athletes and officials who are proven to have been part of a doping "manipulation system" should receive lifetime bans from the Olympics.
