Former WWE Champion CM Punk, otherwise known as Phil Brooks, will make his much anticipated UFC debut this September in Cleveland.

Brooks will take on Mickey Gall (2-0) at UFC 203 after the 37-year-old was cleared of a back injury which has kept him out of action since February.

He broke the news officially today on the UFC's Unfiltered podcast and now takes on Gall, who was signed by the UFC during their Fight Pass show "Lookin' for a Fight".

Gall debuted in the UFC with a first-round submission victory over Mike Jackson in February.

UFC 203 is headlined by a heavyweight title fight between champion Stipe Miocic and challenger Alistair Overeem.

The co-main event sees, former heavyweight champ Fabricio Werdum meets Ben Rothwell.

Brooks signed for the UFC in December 2014, but a number of injuries have meant he had to delay making his debut. He left the WWE after falling out with the company's executives.

The Chicago native signed for the promotion with very little physical combat experience having done small amounts of training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu with coach Rener Gracie.
