CM Punk's time as a UFC fighter could be over after one fight.

The former professional wrestler, who lost to Mickey Gall in his MMA debut last September has yet to be given a second opponent. His loss, inside 2:30 of the opening round was seen as an experiment that went wrong.

Despite proclaiming his wish to continue with his MMA career, Punk's next battle will not be in the Octagon, but on television screens.

Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks, will take part in MTV's The Challenge, ESPN have revealed. The reality game show will see a group of professional athletes, including Punk face off against a group of former stars of the show.

The news of Punk's participation in The Challenge casts doubt over his future in the UFC. The former WWE Champion has not been linked with any bouts since his loss to Gall.

UFC President Dana White previously stated that Punk's next fight should not be in such a high-profile environment.

"I don't know if the fight was an experiment. I became friends with him, he's a nice guy and I've a lot of respect for him. He wanted to give it a shot, I gave him a shot."
