Can Sergio Garcia end his major drought?

Sergio Garcia goes into Sunday's final round of The Masters with an amazing chance to finally win a major.

The Spanish star is the co-leader on -6, with his Ryder Cup teammate Justin Rose. The duo have a one-shot lead over Rickie Fowler, with 18 holes to go.

Garcia has competed in 73 majors before this week's event. Only Bill Haas (84) and Lee Westwood (75) have competed in more majors without winning one of golf's big four tournaments.

Speaking after Saturday's round of 70, Garcia said he will do his best not to be overawed by Sunday's final round, but he revealed he was "calm" after Saturday's round.

"Having a chance to win a tournament is always exciting. Having a chance of winning a major and winning here at Augusta, it's extra exciting."

"You do have to calm yourself down, not get ahead of yourself. Take some nice, deep breaths. And then, you know, just try to cope with whatever comes your way the best way possible. I think that at the end of the day, that's really the only thing you can do."

"Like I said [after the second round], when you go out there and do your best, there's nothing else you can ask yourself for."

Seve Ballesteros is Spain's most successful golfer, and was a hero of Garcia. The two-time Masters winner would turned 60 today.

Despite the significance of the birthday, Garcia admitted Ballesteros and Jose Maria Olazabal will be in his thoughts during the final round.

"They were both my big idols growing up. So it means a lot. I mean, I don't want to get ahead of myself, but it would mean”‘”‘ I don't even know how much it would mean to be able to join both of my idols as a Masters winner."

"You know, it would be nice to have a chance and hopefully do it. I had Jose send me”‘”‘ obviously Seve couldn't do it, but Jose sent me a beautiful message on Wednesday night, and you know, he has a good touch when it comes down to those things. It really meant a lot."

Despite leading, he is not favourite to win on Sunday evening. In the golfing world, there would not be a more popular winner than Sergio Garcia.
