Carl Frampton kicks off the anticipation as he confirms Leo Santa Cruz rematch

Carl Frampton has confirmed that his WBA featherweight title rematch against Leo Santa Cruz has been given the go-ahead.

The undefeated Belfast fighter took to Twitter to state that a deal has been agreed, although a date and venue are yet to be confirmed.

Frampton defeated the then-undefeated Mexican on a majority decision in New York last July.

That bout on July 30th at the Barclays Center, New York City went all 12 rounds and resulted in Frampton taking his pro record to 23 wins and no defeats.

It also marked a jump in weight for the 29-year-old as he moved up from super bantamweight to featherweight.

At the time, he told Off The Ball that the move suited him as he prepared for the first Santa Cruz fight.

"I think I'll have better tools at 126lbs than I had at 122lbs. I think I was shrinking myself into 122lbs and it was taking something away from me," he had said.

"At 126lbs I'm feeling comfortable and I'm a week away from the weigh-in and I'm eating plenty of food which isn't normal. I'm drinking plenty and I feel good, I'm enjoying boxing again. Usually the week before weigh-in I hate it and I don't like boxing. Now I'm enjoying myself and I think you'll see the best ever performance from me."
