Celtic beat Aberdeen to win Scottish Cup and complete domestic treble

Tom Rogic was the hero as Celtic beat Aberdeen 2-1 to win the Scottish Cup at Hampden Park and complete the domestic treble.

Brendan Rodgers' side have been immaculate this season and have now gone the entire season unbeaten domestically.

In one of the most exciting Cup finals seen in recent years, Ireland's Jonny Hayes opened the scoring for Aberdeen in the ninth minute.

He lost his marker, Leigh Griffiths, during a corner and fired past Craig Gordon to give the Dons the lead.

Celtic fired back almost immediately when the ball broke to Stuart Armstrong on the edge of the Aberdeen area and he struck a low shot past Joe Lewis to level the scores.

The game was played at a frenetic pace as both teams went looking to win the final piece of silverware of the season.

Keiran Tierney was substituted early on after a nasty clash drew blood but the incident didn't warrant any action from the referee.

It finished 1-1 at half-time and both teams continued to attack after the break.

Aberdeen nearly took the lead after Callum McGregor was caught in possession when he was the last man back only for the chance to come to nothing.

Celtic upped the ante and dominated the last half hour with Patrick Roberts, Scott Sinclair and Leigh Griffiths coming close on a number of occasions.

The match looked set for extra-time only for Tom Rogic to fire passed Lewis and finally break Aberdeen's resolve.

The Scottish Cup win caps a remarkable debut season for manager Brendan Rodgers. He led his side to 47 matches unbeaten in Scotland which included the club's first domestic treble since 2000/01.
