Celtic legend Henrik Larsson resigns as Helsingborgs manager days after fans attack his son

Former Celtic, Barcelona and Manchester United striker Henrik Larsson has left his position as Helsingborg manager.

It comes just days after his son was attacked following the club's relegation from Sweden's top flight.

Jordan Larsson was confronted by a group of hooded fans, who forcibly removed his shirt at the end of the relegation play-off against Halmstads.

Jordan Larsson was escorted off the pitch and his father was quick to defend him.

The Celtic legend confronted members of the crowd after the incident.

"I didn’t see that they attacked Jordan but if I had, I would have gone in there towards him," Larsson Sr said after the game.

"I was not going to run from there. If they turn on me, they turn on me. I had been beaten."

But he has now made the decision to retire as manager of his hometown club who he played for in the 1992-93 season as well as between 2006 and 2009, before returning as boss in 2015.

“Myself, the board, Henrik Larsson and the rest of the leadership team, together with the players, in solidarity bear the responsibility for this relegation,” said club director  Mats-Ola Schulze.

“We are obviously very grateful for the financial solution. I, together with the board, want to thank Henrik for the comprehensive restructuring that has been done in the football organisation during 2015 and 2016."
