Celtic play Aberdeen chasing the first leg of a domestic treble

Celtic and Aberdeen will square off on Sunday in the final of the Betfred Cup final looking for the first piece of silverware of the season.

SPL leaders Celtic go into the match on the back of impressive domestic form where they have won 11 of their 12 matches which included a 4-1 win over Aberdeen in August. Goal from Leigh Griffiths, James Forrest, Scott Sinclair and Tom Rogic secured the win with Adam Rooney replying for the Dons.

Celtic travelled to Pittodrie at the end of October and took all three points courtesy of a Tom Rogic goal midway through the first half.

It's not all doom and gloom for Aberdeen though. They have won four of the last five cup finals against Celtic. The game will be the 28th meeting between the teams in the League Cup with Celtic having won 14 times to Aberdeen's nine.

Speaking to the club's website ahead of the match Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong said: "“We’re not focused on trebles, or what that might mean later on in the season. We’re just focused on taking it week by week which is what we’ve always done, so we’ve focused on the league, and when the League Cup comes around we focus on that. We’re always looking on the next fixture and taking it game by game.”

“The attraction of coming to Celtic is to play in Europe and play in cup finals, and that’s what you want to do, ultimately, as a footballer, is to accomplish things and win things, so if we can get off to winning ways on Sunday and win the cup, I’ll be very happy,” he added.
