Champions League Round-Up: Messi spoils Pep's party once again

Lionel Messi was on hand once more to spoil the party for his former manager as the Argentinian scored three goals against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.

In front of a raucous crowd at the Camp Nou, Barcelona maintained their hold on top spot with a 4-0 victory over the Premier League side.

The 29-year-old notched a wonderful hat-trick against Guardiola's side, scoring twice in the second half after rolling in the opener after just 17 minutes. His is the first hat-trick in back-to-back Champions League games since Luiz Adriano.

Neymar missed a penalty but made amends for it in the 90th minute to grab the fourth and hand the Catalan giants a massive victory in the group stage.

There were contrasting fortunes for English sides tonight, with Arsenal having a rather straightforward fixture and making light work of Bulgarian side Ludogorets at the Emirates Stadium.

Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring with an exquisite chip in the first half, before Theo Walcott scored his sixth goal in seven matches with an effort from distance.  Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain notched a third after the break for the Premier League joint leaders.

Mesut Ozil was in scintillating form as he emulated Messi's contribution with a hat-trick of his own.

Elsewhere in Group A, PSG were convincing 3-0 winners over Basel in Paris. Former Manchester United midfielder Angel Di Maria opened the scoring for the French champions, before Lucas Moura added a second and Cavani converted from the spot in stoppage time.

Celtic missed their chance to make a real push for the knockout stages of the competition, they went down 2-0 at home to Borussia Monchengladbach.

Napoli will be disappointed after dropping points at home tonight to Besiktas. They trailed three times during a 3-2 defeat in Italy, but retain their place at top of the group.

Benfica made up ground on Napoli after their defeat, they were 2-0 winners away to Dynamo Kyiv at the Olimp-2 stadium.

Arjen Robben scored against his old club as Bayern Munich ran out 4-1 winners over PSV.

Joshua Kimmich scored his seventh goal in his last eight games in all competitions, after Thomas Mueller put the German champions ahead early on in the game. Robert Lewandowski got the other goal on the night.

Atletico just needed a single goal as they picked up all three points away to FK Rostov.
