Chapecoense say only one club gave financial aid after accident

Chapecoense have said that only one club made financial donations to them in the aftermath of an air plane crash last November, which claimed the lives of several of its members.

The club's new president Plinio David de Nes has told Fox Sports, that Barcelona was the only club which offered them financial assistance to help with their recovery, after 19 players died in the tragic incident.

"Only Barcelona have been with us from the very first moments."

"They made money available to us and then in August they invited us to play the Gamper Trophy with the money divided between us."

The club did receive prize money and tributes from other sections of the football community. De Nes added that Roma offered a game to them, but they were forced to decline the invitation due to a 'packed calendar.'

71 passengers died on the flight that was travelling to Medellin in Colombia last year, including the Brazilian club that was due to line out in the final of the Copa Sudamericana. Six people, including three players survived the accident.

Their opponents Atletico Nacional later proposed to award the trophy to Chapecoense, which was presented to the club's president.

A recording of the pilot  from the ill-fated flight, indicated that the plane came down after running out of fuel as well as a 'total electric failure.'

No formal distress call was issued.

Following an investigation, a Bolivian official determined that the pilot and the airline were directly responsible for the plane crashing into a mountainside.
