Chelsea board to decide Mourinho's fate

Chelsea slumped to a ninth Premier League defeat on Monday night to Leicester City and Jose Mourinho's job is still a point of contention at the London club.

While there was no emergency meeting called for the sole purpose of discussing Mourinho's future, his name and his future were discussed at board level as the reigning Premier League champions teeter just outside the relegation zone almost half way through the domestic campaign.

It appears that while Mourinho has not been given the axe just yet, his job remains in limbo as Sky confirmed Bruce Buck, Eugene Tenenbaum, Marina Granovskaia and Michael Emenalo from Chelsea's board were part of a discussion with Roman Abramovich regarding the Portuguese coach.

Chelsea have been under scrutiny since their opening day 2-2 draw with Swansea. Dr Eva Carneiro left her position on the medical staff following unnecessary critique from Mourinho when tending to Eden Hazard on the day.

Cesc Fabregas has been singled out for criticism for his behaviour along with Diego Costa and Eden Hazard also. The latter walked off the field on Monday night with what appeared to be a minor knock.

Mourinho challenged his players following the defeat and claims his players have let him down.

Whether or not that is true will be up for debate for a long time to come but, ultimately, what matters most is who Abramovich and his board believe in the ongoing theatrical production that is Chelsea F.C's season.
