Cody Garbrandt wants to become a three-division UFC champion

Conor McGregor made history late last year by becoming the first fighter in UFC history to hold belts in two different weight classes concurrently.

Since then, others have wanted to emulate the feat of becoming a multiple division UFC champion.

Women's bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes previously expressed her desire to challenge for the newly established women's featherweight title.

Now, men's bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt has shared similar ambitions.

After his impression decision victory over Dominick Cruz late last year, the team Alpha Male fighter now has his sights set on taking on flyweight kingpin, Demetrious Johnson.

Speaking on the Aubrey Marcus podcast, said he respected the UFC's champion at 125lbs, but that he aims to build a legacy.

"Demetrious, he’s the pound-for-pound best," he said.

"Justifiably so, [he’s] an incredible fighter, great human. I like him a lot, and his family.

"But for me, it’s a legacy that I set out to build. Friendships are friendships but it’s business at the end of the day and I think that I can go on as a huge fight, especially for that division. It’s kind of lackluster a lot."

First up for Garbrandt will be TJ Dillashaw, with the pair set to go head-to-head in the latest series of The Ultimate Fighter.

Garbrandt also said he would relish the chance to take on featherweight champion, Jose Aldo, and the chance to become the UFC's first three-division world champion.

"He's the champion right now. He has wins over my teammates, too, so that’s something.

"Our camp knows Aldo. If my time is up to go up to [featherweight], and Aldo’s still the champion, I’d love to go against another legend, be a three-time [champion].

"Hopefully, I’ll have 10 more years of fighting to be able to capture those."
