Colm Cooper to decide on Kerry future when club season finishes

Colm Cooper is expected to make a decision on his future with the Kerry footballers, when his club season with Dr Crokes is over, according to reports.

The Irish Independent writes today that Cooper will finalise his decision, after his side's upcoming All-Ireland Club SFC semi-final clash against Corofin next month.

It was rumoured this month that both Cooper and fellow Kerry stalwart Kieran Donaghy would rejoin the panel for 2017.

Kerry teammate Donnchadh Walsh stated earlier in the week that the pair were 'definitely back as far as I can see,' and Kerry boss Eamonn Fitzmaurice confirmed Donaghy's return to the Independent.

The Tralee forward, who is heading for his 14th season with Kerry, is currently training once a week with the inter-county squad while his basketball season is still ongoing.

Fitzmaurice added that Cooper's future remains undecided and said that Peter Crowley will captain the side while they await Dr Croke's decision on a captain.

The return of both players would be welcomed news for the Kerry contingent following the loss of Aidan O'Mahony and Marc Ó Sé to retirement. O'Mahony announced his departure this week, while fellow defender Ó Sé made his decision in October.
