Confusion reigns as Argentine Football Association President submits and then rescinds his resignation

President of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), Luis Segura, announced his resignation on Monday in the wake of a tumultuous 24 hours for la albiceleste

News emerged from the AFA that interim leader Segura, who was due to leave his post as president on the 30th of June, had resigned and stated that he would not have any further involvement in the association.

However, shortly afterwards, Segura himself rescinding that resignation saying "I don't know where that came from, you'd have to ask those that said it."

The confusion caps a very strange few days for the AFA, after they had a bomb threat at their offices in Buenos Aires, and Lionel Messi announced that he would be retiring from the national team after losing his fourth final with the team.

Messi missed a penalty in the Copa America Centenario final shootout against Chile, and then announced that he would no longer be turning out in the iconic white and blue of the national team.

Prior to the final, Messi expressed his frustration with the AFA and their lack of organisation, calling them a "disaster", which may have been one of the reasons behind his decision.

As it stands, the AFA is under the control of a FIFA administrative committee as they prepare for their elections, while Segura was also recently charged with fraudulent administration regarding TV broadcasting rights.
