Connacht release heartwarming tribute for John Muldoon

John Muldoon will line out for his 300th appearance for Connacht this evening, when they welcome Leinster to the Sportsground for a Guinness PRO12 clash.

And to mark the occasion, the club have prepared a special tribute video about the man who captained them to PRO12 glory last year.

The video features a host of players and members of the club speaking of their appreciation for Muldoon, who made his senior debut for the club in 2004.

For his own contribution to the video, the Portumna man spoke about his early days with the club, the people he represents and his ambitions for the future.

"I was the youngest member of the squad, 19 years of age. You'd be pinching yourself thinking, 'is this actually happening, am I getting a full-time deal?' I wanted to feel like I deserved to be there and I wanted to show everyone that I deserved to be there.'"

"I'm very proud of where I'm from, I'm very proud of the people that I represent and I know every time I go out onto the pitch, why I'm doing it. Any young kid who's thinking about being a rugby player, take the opportunity if you get it because there's no better job."

"I wouldn't give this job up for anything and if the body and mind wants to keep going, why not?"

In a statement published on the club website, Connacht CEO Willie Ruane said:

"He is a proud and passionate Connacht man and having taken up rugby in his teens, playing for Neenagh and then Galwegians, he went on to represent Connacht and Ireland. He is the epitome of our Grassroots to Green Shirts vision and a huge inspiration for every young player throughout the province.

"Indeed, he inspires his own teammates week in week out and has done over the past 14 years with his hard work, determination and respect for the jersey.

Off The Ball will provide live commentary from the Sportsground this evening with kick-off taking place at 7.35.
