Conor McGregor earned a record-breaking pay day at UFC 202

Conor McGregor is used to taking home big pay cheques after his fights with the UFC, given that he has become one of the most marketable names in the sport, but his latest pay packet will be bigger than any other previous purse in the sport.

According to figures from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, McGregor earned a record-setting $3 million for his fight against Diaz.

Diaz himself won't be too badly off either, as he is set to take home $2 million as a result, which is a pretty big improvement on the $500,000 he earned when the two last fought back in March.

However, neither fighter will get a win bonus for their performance on the night, but the flat fees disclosed may well rise even further by the time pay-per-view buys, merchandising and other factors are included.

Before UFC 202, the biggest pay day came just a few weeks ago as Brock Lesnar earned $2.5 million for his appearance at UFC 200.

The other fighters on the card took home substantially less than the two main-event stars, with Anthony Johnson's knockout ensuring that he doubled his $135,000 take home pay with a win bonus of the same size.
