Cork City full-back Kevin O'Connor is "on the verge" of a move to Preston North End, according to reports in England.

The Lancashire Post claim that the Championship side are lining up their second signing of the summer, after securing the signature of Cork City's Sean Maguire.

The signing would be the fourth from the League of Ireland this year after Maguire and Dundalk duo Daryl Horgan and Andy Boyle joined in recent months.

The left-back's arrival would see the a further increase in the Irish contingent at Deepdale. Before the arrival of Horgan and Boyle in January, Alan Browne and Greg Cunningham were already part of the team - as was Irish international Aiden McGeady who is on loan from Everton.

Ireland's Eoin Doyle is also another member of Simon Grayson's panel.

O'Connor's performances this year have helped Cork City streak to an 18-point lead at the top of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

Cork have dropped just two points in their opening 17 games of the season.

They have kept hold of Maguire until the end of July and will hope to make some inroads in their Europa League group stage qualification bid.
