Coventry City plead with fans to stop blowing whistles inside the stadium on matchdays

English League One strugglers Coventry have pleaded with supporters to stop blowing whistles inside their home stadium when a game is going on.

Fans have disrupted matches in protest against the club's owners.

There have also been pitch invasions.

Coventry have issued a statement asking fans not to use whistles, as it could result in punishment from the Football Association.

In an official communique to fans, the club said: "The Club urges fans to stop blowing whistles inside the stadium on a Coventry City FC Matchday.

The Football Association (FA) has written to the club and made it abundantly clear that they will continue to monitor Coventry City fans' behaviour inside stadiums and any deliberate disruption of a game by our fanbase will leave the Club open to FA sanctions.

Whilst the Club will always encourage vocal support in favour of the team, we kindly ask that fans refrain from blowing whistles that may cause distraction and/or interrupt a match."

Coventry are bottom of their tier League One, four points adrift of safety.

The club, who last featured at Premier League level back in the 2000-01 season, have languished in the third tier of English football since they were relegated from the Championship in 2013.

Supporters have been protesting against club owners SISU over the running of the club.
