'It's the greatest time of our lives as players'

New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum says his side enjoyed "the greatest time" of the careers in stunning South Africa to progress to the Cricket World Cup final this morning.

Kiwi Grant Elliot smashed a 6 on the penultimate ball of their semi-final against the Proteas to take his side to a decider against either Australia or India.

The Black Caps won the match by four wickets on the Duckworth-Lewis Method, having been set 298 in 43 overs after a rain affected South Africa innings.

"What a great innings from Elliott," McCullum said, "he came out of the wilderness not long ago.

"It's the greatest time of our lives as players."

"I don't think this win is for myself, or for the team, it is for everyone here, the supporters," said Elliott. "When you got 40,000 fans screaming at you every ball.. it's been an absolute pleasure playing at Eden Park."

When asked what was going through his mind when he hit the last 6, Elliott said: "Nothing. I don't even know where the ball went."

"We left everything on the field," said South Africa's AB De Villiers. "I can't ask anything more from our boys. It was an amazing game of cricket. The most electric crowd I have heard in my life. The better team came out on top."
