Dallas Stars mock Donald Trump's inauguration attendance figures

Since 1972, Texas has only voted for a Democratic presidential nominee on one occasion. It's one of the most traditional Republican states in America.

When a major Texas sports team starts mocking a Republican president, less than a handful of days into the job, you know they are already fighting a losing battle. That was the case at the weekend when the Dallas Stars were playing the Washington Nationals on Saturday night.

The Stars lost 4-3 at home on front of their fans in the American Airlines Center. The arena holds less then 20,000, but in a nod to the previous day's presidential inauguration, there were "alternative facts" given to the attendance numbers.

With a capacity of 18,532, the Stars would need 81 consecutive home full houses to reach the 1.5 million mark. That's made even more difficult by the face that only 41 games are played at home each regular season.

Before Saturday's match, the Stars had sold-out only 12 of their 23 home matches this season. It make take a while to reach that magical mark.
